Deepwater Response to Underwater Pipeline Emergencies (DW RUPE)

DW RUPE was formed in December 2004 as a Joint Industry Study to address deepwater pipeline repairs for pipe sizes ranging from 4-inch to 24-inch. Stress Subsea, Inc. is both the project manager and engineer for DW RUPE. There are currently nine members, including eight operating companies and the MMS. Additional participation is welcome for Phase 2.
DW RUPE - Phase 1
Scope of Work (December 2004 through May 2005) has included:

 Develop matrix of member company deepwater pipeline sizes, lengths, wall thicknesses and pressure ratings.
 Identify potential failure modes of deepwater flowlines or pipelines.
 Survey industry for deepwater repair methodology and equipment for deployment.
 Solicit bids for applicable equipment.
 Develop low cost deepwater pipeline repair system methodology.

DW RUPE - Phase 2
Scope of Work (June 2005+) will include:

 Detail design of repair equipment.
 Purchase of prototype equipment for qualification testing of unproven designs.
 Perform SIT utilizing prototype equipment.
 Purchase remainder of equipment in order to conduct deepwater pipeline repair for the range of pipe sizes.
 Conduct equipment FATs.
 Store equipment for rapid response to deepwater pipeline emergencies.
